Mission Statement:
As a 501c3 non profit, Buffalo Billy’s Bison Brotherhood’s mission is to protect and advocate for the American Bison through education, promotion, purchase, management, and rescue.
Goals:
- To manage private, indigenous and public herds by working with owners/entities to create an environment for buffalo that is as healthy and natural as possible.
- To promote and advance humane research, veterinary professionals and practices for the best and most effective handling, treatment and cure of buffalo related diseases.
- To protect and promote bison who have true, uncontaminated American Bison DNA as well as Wood Bison with uncontaminated DNA .
- To offer bison for sale to individuals, corporations and other entities which The Brotherthood will manage for the bison’s lifetime and that of the their offspring and future generations.
- To protect the species through education as an enduring legacy as an American Icon.
- To promote bison protection through designation as wildlife.
- Bison ranchers have played a pivotal role in bringing back the species from the brink of extinction. The Brotherhood seeks to develop ways that bison can be worth more to ranchers alive, as a viable alternative to those ranched for meat.
- To develop exchange programs to promote genetic diversity in public and private herds.
- To eradicate cruelty to bison, including the painful method of de-horning.
- To advocate for humane treatment and natural lifestyles for bison.
- To compile a comprehensive registry/data base from the experience and knowledge of experts, ranchers and veterinarians to address bison health and handling issues, which will be available to anyone seeking such knowledge.
- To develop other alternatives to hunting, confinement and slaughter for Yellowstone Bison wandering outside the park.
